Preparation & Planning

Beyond labour & birth

When I was pregnant with my first baby, I thought I was prepared. I’d read the books, listened to advice, and felt like I had a good idea of it all, but when the time came, I realised I wasn’t as prepared as I thought.

With my second baby, I approached things differently. I put a huge amount of energy into understanding all of my options - not just for labour and birth, but for every possible outcome. I made a detailed, cohesive plan, and just as importantly, I made sure everyone around me understood it too. That preparation made such a difference to how I experienced it all.

That’s why I’m so passionate about offering antenatal education. I want to make sure that you don’t feel that way. I want to help you go into birth with knowledge, confidence and a plan that works for you and your family.

I also believe preparation shouldn’t end with birth. We often focus so much on antenatal planning, but your postnatal journey deserves just as much thought and care. That’s why I encourage families to create a postnatal plan alongside their birth plan, so they feel supported not only in labour, but in those early days and weeks with their baby.

Support for Siblings

Working with the smaller family members to prepare for a new baby

When planning the home birth of my second baby, it felt deeply important to include my eldest in the journey. I felt strongly about making birth a positive, meaningful experience for her - not something she only ever saw in the media, where it’s often portrayed as frightening, medicalised and chaotic.

To prepare her, we used books, toys, videos and role play to gently explain what might happen - the sounds, the people and how birth works - in a way that was appropriate for her age and development. We also talked about what newborns are like, what Mummy might need after the birth and how things might feel or change. This helped her feel informed, involved and emotionally ready, reducing fear, anxiety, or jealousy while encouraging bonding with her new sibling.

This is something I can also support other families with, both during pregnancy and after birth. Whether it’s helping siblings understand the birthing process, easing their transition into their new role, or giving parents space to focus on their older children, I offer support that nurtures the whole family during this important time.

For me, it’s about giving you the tools, information and confidence to feel truly prepared, whichever path your journey takes.

Tailored for your family

Bespoke support structured around your choices

I offer a comprehensive antenatal education package designed to give you and your family the confidence and knowledge you need. This includes six home visits, each lasting up to two hours. During our time together, we’ll explore how birth works, talk through your birth choices, and work together to create a birth plan that truly reflects your wishes.

We’ll also look ahead to life after birth - covering feeding (in all its forms), what those early postnatal days can feel like and how to create a supportive postnatal plan that involves not just you, but also your birth and postnatal partners, so everyone is on the same page.

Every package is tailored to your family, focusing on the areas that matter most to you and the topics can be adapted depending on your needs and circumstances.
